Freeware Windows software to convert photos / images into painterly styles.
While painterly image converters are nothing new (there are plenty of phone apps and Java / Processing applets that do the same thing), what is interesting with this one is that you can actually see the process at work. The top image is a tweaked GIF of what you can see (using the brushstrokes mode) while the image is being processed. The second image is the original photo, the third the final product. I used a 500 pixel wide image for demonstration purposes, but much larger photos can be used (which is an advantage over other apps).
